Effective Director Course - Virtual

The Australian Marketing Institute, in collaboration with our partner, the Governance Institute of Australia, is pleased to offer a selection of highly requested courses.

Exploring the role of the company director and the board’s vital contribution towards organisational culture and sustainable governance, this course draws on theory, practice, and the collective knowledge of the participants to simulate the boardroom experience.

This course is designed to consolidate your understanding of the role of the director and the board. The course modules are delivered over three-days and explore the duties of directors with a focus on the soft skills required to be an effective director in the boardroom environment. You will meet and network with peers across sectors and each module is facilitated by an experienced trainer with director experience.

The course is designed for:
  • aspiring or newly appointed directors
  • executives seeking director transition pathways
  • directors wanting to refine their skills
  • senior executives reporting into a board

The course is uniquely based around one hypothetical case study to support your practical learning.

After attending the course, you will:

  • Walk away with practical tools and tips on how to be an effective director
  • Explore the frameworks and the theory behind best practice director communication
  • Learn about executive engagement and how a board operates and makes decisions
  • Be involved in a boardroom simulation and practice your director questioning skills
  • Understand how a director and board acquires information, including board packs, which provide the basis for sound decision-making
  • Learn how to use a board portal and take notes

Conclude the course by meeting an experienced non-executive director and a recruiter to hear about current trends in director recruitment and appointment and gain valuable personal insights on how to thrive as a director in the boardroom.

The course materials will be provided for pre-reading 2 weeks prior to the start of your course. Assessment consists of reflective written responses to each of modules 1 to 3.

How the course will be delivered?
